Cadogan (M)>

Cadogan (male)

Derivative of:Cadwgan (M) Cadwgawn (M)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Personal communication [I&S]
Notes:

Mainly Welsh but also Irish and English; an Anglicized version of the medieval Welsh name Cadwgan or Cadwgawn, meaning "battle honour".

A private note [I&S] reported that a relative of Lord Cadogan (also the family name) baptized his daughter "Cadogan" in the 17th century, presumably in honour of his famous relative, but this is an isolated occurrence of a female use.
