Ellen and Helen often appear in old documents in Latin as Elena or Helena and it is also possible that they may be recorded as Eleanora or Elenora, or even Helenora. Care should be taken when searching these old documents to note the appropriate Latin case endings.

The use of Nora as a pet name has been noted, by way of the elaboration "Eleanor" and "Eleanora".
