Wallace (male)

Pet Name(s):Wally (M)
Can be spelt:Walles (M)

Source(s): FreeCEN 1841 Census of Aberdeenshire
The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

Scottish and English, from Old French "foreign".

Wallace was introduced to Britain and north west France by the Normans as a surname, particularly for Celtic races: Welsh, Bretons and Britons. Its use as a forename is mainly Scottish although the 1841 Census of Aberdeenshire has very few occurrences. The spelling variant Walles is extremely rare.
