Sidonius (M)>

Sidonius (male)

Derivative(s):Zdeněk (M)
Feminine form:Sidonia (F)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

A Roman ethnic name meaning "a man from Sidon (a place in Phoenicia)".  The female form Sidonia has been in occasional use since the Middle Ages, but the male form has seldom, if ever, been used.

The Czech name Zdeněk is very popular as are its feminine variants.

There has been some confusion with the Greek sindon, "winding-sheet" but this is unconnected.
