Narcissus is the Latin form of the original Greek mythological name Narkissos; NT Romans 16:11. It was originally popular for Roman slaves and has given rise to a number of names in Europe, but has never caught on in English-speaking communities.
The name in mythology represnts a youth who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and is of unknown origin. Some have tried to link the name to Greek "numbness"! |
