Napoleon (male)

Variants:Napoleone (M)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

French and English after the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte.  He was born in Corsica.  His family was originally Italian and the Italian form, Napoleone, is still used in the northern midland regions of Italy.

The meaning, derived from an earlier German form, was Italinised to represent the "lion of Naples".
