Notes: |
Jewish, probably from Hebrew "laughter"; OT Genesis 21:1-6 & 22:1-13.
Although predominately Jewish and later Puritan, because of the Biblical link, Isaac is latterly fairly popular in Christian communities, especially in the US.
In old documents in Latin, the form Isakus or Isachus (or possibly qc[Ishachus:m]) may be found, with appropriate case endings. |
