Spelling variant of the Latinised version of the Greek Ieronumos = Jerome. Hieronymus/Hieronimus was used for Jerome in old documents with appropriate Latin case endings.

It is also suggested by FreeREG as being similarly used for Jeremy although there is no etymological connection between Jerome and Jeremy.
