Esmé (M)>

Esmé (male)

Feminine form:Esmé (F) Esmée (F)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
"Scottish Forenames" - Donald Whyte, FGH, FSG
Notes:

French and Scottish, from Latin "loved, esteemed". Introduced into Scotland by a cousin of King James VI.

In France Esmé is now predominantly used in the feminine form, often as Esmée. In Scotland the male form is rare but if used the accent is usually dropped: Esme, although the final "e" is often sounded.
