a) from the Spanish feminine form of Stanislas, from Old Slavonic "government glory" [ONC]; or b) from Greek and Phoenecian for "serpent lady" [various US websites].
A correspondent [TL2] believes that Tanis, her own name, means "one of equality and justice" but we have been unable to authenticate this. |
