This name has been sent to us by a bearer of it.  She believes it has a Portuguese-African origin and it similar to Ruth. However other sources suggest a navajo origin.  In either case the meaning given is "beautiful" which is very close to the Hebrew origin of Ruth, "vision of beauty".
