1. Czech form of Lydia [q.v.] from the Greek place-name in Asia Minor, signifying "a woman from Lydia".
2. Czech pet name for Lidmila [q.v.] from Old Slavonic "people" + "favour".
3. Italian feminine form of Lido.
A correspondent [GD2] reports that there are several men of Italian extraction with the name Lido in Canada but the origin is not certain. It seems most likely that it is a reference to the beach and island on the outer side of the Venice lagoon. Lida is the feminine version. |
