A spelling variant of Dulcie [q.v.], from Latin "sweet".

A correspondent [DTG] wrote from Canada:

"Dulcie was the spelling used by my [Scottish] grandmother ... but for her it was a nickname ... my mother told me that was why I was named Dalcy. She changed the spelling but I have no idea why - Canadian version perhaps?"

And later: "I know of one other Dalcy in Canada."
