During the 17^th century, several women with the forename Beigis were tried for witchcraft. A correspondent [GJ] has found the spellings Beigis and Beiggis in several Scottish records, including the Kirk Session records for St Andrews, Scotland [transcribed by the Scottish History Society]. We have been unable to trace an origin or meaning for this name.
