Scottish feminine form of Archibald [q.v.].

A correspondent [JH] noted the occurrence of Archibald as a female name in a few cases in the 1851 Census of the Shetland Isles in Scotland. We have also found over 20 occurrences in the 1841 Census of Aberdeenshire, so this usage appears to be well established across Scotland.
