English and Jewish from Hebrew "daughter of Jehovah". Bethia is a frequent spelling variation.  It is identical in Hebrew to the modern Jewish name Batyah.

The Gaelic rendering of Bethia/Bathia is Elisaid which is also the Gaelic form of Elisabeth/Elizabeth [q.v.] which are therefore classed here as lesser synonyms.
